The Croatian shoulder seasons — April to May and September to October — offer arguably the best overall holiday conditions. Temperatures are warm enough for outdoor dining and comfortable swimming in heated pools, while the crowds, traffic, and peak-season prices of summer are absent. National parks like Plitvice Lakes are dramatically more beautiful in autumn colours, and the coastline has a peaceful character that peak season visitors never experience.
