What Makes Brač Island in Croatia Different
Hvar, Korčula, Pag, Šolta...each of the Croatian islands has its own unique character. So, who should choose holidays on Brač?
Brač is the easiest island to reach if you are landing in Split. Jadrolinija's Split-Supetar line runs multiple times daily in high season and carries foot passengers and vehicles. In summer, a catamaran runs from Split directly to Bol and Milna from €10. A second car ferry runs from Makarska to Sumartin on the island's eastern tip. Arrivals from the Makarska Riviera side skip Split. Or, choose a private boat transfer, which is convenient if you don't like crowds.
Brač Airport (BWK) handles seasonal flights and summer charters from a few EU countries. Still, for most guests, Split remains the sensible gateway.
The Golden Horn beach on Bol is the one from the postcards. This pebble promontory visibly shifts shape with wind and current. It is the most photographed stretch of coast in Croatia with clear water and pine shades. Brač also offers a genuine sandy beach for sand lovers and families with children - Lovrecina on the northeastern coast.
The traditional stone from Brač was used to build Split. Limestone built Diocletian's Palace. Pučišća on the north coast still runs one of the few dedicated stonemasonry schools left in Europe. You will see the pale stone in every village, every church, and many of the stone villas you consider renting.
Because inventory is deep and the island is large, Brač luxury villa prices span the whole spectrum. Our current portfolio runs from €1,120 to €41,300 per week. On a per-person-per-night basis, a well-equipped 10-guest villa with a pool on Brač regularly comes in under €40, which is an attractive price.
The food culture is to try. Island lamb grazes on wild sage, rosemary and thyme. The island keeps two authentic dishes: vitalac, a spit-roasted lamb offal dish protected as Croatian intangible cultural heritage, and hrapoćuša, the dense walnut cake of the village of Dol. The winery on Bol makes one of Dalmatia's most respected Plavac Mali (red wine) and Pošip (white wine).

Bol and the South Coast: The Zlatni Rat Beach Address
Bol is what most people picture when they think of Brač, without even knowing its name. This charming town spreads along the south shore under Vidova Gora. It has a stone harbor, a long pine-shaded promenade, and Zlatni Rat. The beach itself needs no introduction. For villa holiday planning, the key point is that Bol is the island's only resort-like town. It has the widest restaurant choice, beach bars, and the Stina winery where you can sample wine.
It is also one of Europe's best-known windsurfing and kitesurfing venues. The afternoon channel wind delivers reliable conditions that have made the town a world-famous windsurfing destination, with schools and rental centers along the beach road.

Supetar: The Capital
Supetar is a small town. It has supermarkets, a health center, and a harbor front of cafes. The beaches west of town, such as Vela Luka bay, are shallow and family-friendly. In the evening riva has a local rhythm that guests with young children tend to love.
Walk off the ferry with luggage and be at your villa in minutes. Hire cars and boats are based here, and most of the other points on the island are within about 40 minutes' drive. Sutivan, Milna and the West
Ten minutes west of Supetar is situated Sutivan. A charming village with a growing cluster of modern villas on its edges. Here you can find properties that can accommodate 8 guests each (from €4,701 per week) and can be combined for a 16-person multi-family stay. Or a 6-guest villa with three bedrooms starting from €2,940. We also offer many other options, depending on your preferences.
Milna is tucked into a sheltered bay on the western tip. It is the island's yachting port, with Venetian-era houses and fish restaurants. The sunsets over the Split channel are the best on Brač and perfect for a romantic walk.

The North Coast: Splitska, Postira, Pučišća and Lovrečina Beach
The north coast is the island's authentic base.
Splitska was the ancient stone-loading port for Diocletian's quarries. Postira is a fishing village with a working sardine tradition. Pučišća, often listed among Dalmatia's most beautiful villages, wraps its white stone houses around a double harbor beneath the stonemasonry school. Visitors can watch students carve by hand. Between Postira and Pučišća lies Lovrečina - the island's rare sandy bay.
For guests who want to experience a true Dalmatian island life, these villages are worth considering. Morning coffee among locals, fish from the evening boat, and stone lanes. Prices start at €2,338 per week for 6 guests, and €2,842 per week for 8. If you are visiting during September, these places have annual sardine and grape harvest weeks.
Inland and the East: Škrip, Dol, Gornji Humac, Selca and Sumartin
The interior is a plateau of drystone walls, sheep pasture, and vineyard. Škrip is the island's oldest settlement. Dol is the home of the hrapoćuša walnut cake, and Gornji Humac's konobas roast the island's best lamb. In the east, Selca and Sumartin give quick access to the Makarska. This is useful for those combining an island with the mainland Riviera.

You may need a 15-25 minute drive to the nearest swim, so a car is essential.
Things to Do on the Island of Brac (besides the beach)
Climb or drive to Vidova Gora. At 778 m, the summit is the highest point on any Adriatic island, with an aerial view of Golden Horn beach. You can reach the top by road. Or, if you are visiting in spring or autumn, take a two-hour hike.
Walk down to Blaca Hermitage. The 16th-century monastery built into the southern cliffs was run by monks who farmed the surrounding slopes. In its later years, it operated one of the region's notable observatories. A 40-minute walking trail leads to it, and it is truly worth visiting.
Find the Dragon's Cave. Above the hamlet of Murvica, a cave sanctuary carved with dragons, mystical symbols and religious motifs by 15th-century monks is one of Croatia's strangest cultural sites. Visits are guided and must be arranged in advance.
See the stone story at Pučišća. The stonemasonry school shows visitors how the island's limestone is still worked by hand. Village workshops sell carved pieces which you can bring home as a souvenir.
Windsurf, kite or paddle at Bol. The channel is one of the Adriatic's most reliable wind venues. Anyone can join training schools - from first-timers to advanced riders. Mornings are best for paddleboarding the coves west of the beach.
Try authentic food. Book a konoba evening for vitalac, the protected spit-roast dish, or lamb peka. Finish with hrapoćuša and Plavac Mali or Pošip.
Cross to Hvar for a day. Boat trips and taxi boats connect Bol with Jelsa on Hvar. The crossing takes under an hour. It is an easy way to add a second island without repacking.

For most travelers, the standard routing is a flight to Split Airport (SPU). After that, a 25-35 minute transfer to Split port, then the ferry or catamaran. Vehicle reservations on the Makarska to Sumartin line are strongly recommended in summer. The Split to Supetar line loads vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrive 60-90 minutes early with a car in peak season.
When to Go to Brač Island
When is the best time to visit Brač? It depends on your preferences. In May and June, villa prices are 20-45% below peak. It is not too hot, so it is a great time for hiking and visiting picturesque villages. Peak season (July and August) is hottest and busiest. Book a villa early for this time of the year. September is when most of the crowds are gone. The sea is still warm, with grape harvest and sardine season. October can still be swimable early on, and you can join the olive harvest.
